Sai Saileshwara Mandiram, Queensland

May 21,2011  IST

Temple History : Sai Samaj Brisbane, Australia was established in 1998, starting as an informal bhajan group that met weekly at the home of its founder, Sailesh Chand Darshan. Today the group runs a small and beautiful temple in Brisbane, Sai Saileshwara Mandiram. In 1991 Sailesh Chand Darshan was diagnosed with a giant cell tumour in his left knee. This sparked the beginning of an intense spiritual journey to finding healing and peace. Leaving his native Fiji, he travelled to India and stayed for 10 months with Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. During this time he was blessed to have interviews with Baba. During one of these interviews, Baba said, 'Your name is now Sai Saileshwara. This will be the name of your temple, the name of your house and the name of your book.'

Many events took place after these life changing interviews with Baba. In 2003, inspired by the Divine Mother, the temple property was bought and Sai Samaj got to work. The garage and attic were converted into a beautiful temple – a true labour of love. On 17 January 2004, the temple was officially opened with the welcoming and installation of the main deity, Shri Shirdi Sai Baba. A pooja was performed to welcome the two major deities Shirdi Sai Baba and Sri Ganesha. There was a beautiful asana for Shri Sathya Sai Baba to sit upon. This day also marked the first birthday of Eashan, Sailesh and Marina’s baby. On Guru Poornima 2004, a three-day prana pratishta ceremony was performed to install the deities of the temple according to Vedic rites. In February 2006, the third major deity of the temple, Ardhanareswara, arrived from India on St Valentine’s Day and was installed by Sai Samaj over a 40-day pooja.
