CSIR-CECRI hosts curtain raiser for India International Science Festival 2025

karaikudi: the csir-central electrochemical research institute (csir-cecri) on friday organised a curtain raiser for the india international science festival (iisf) 2025, highlighting the events and scientific engagements planned for the upcoming national festival in panchkula, haryana, from december 6 to 9.welcoming the gathering, chief scientist dr. jonas davidson outlined the evolution of iisf since its launch in 2015 and briefed students on thematic sessions planned for this year. he described iisf as a flagship celebration aimed at fostering scientific curiosity, innovation and collaboration among students, researchers and the public.csir-cecri director dr. k. ramesha, delivering the presidential address, thanked chief guest dr. s.a. ilangovan, former deputy director of the vikram sarabhai space centre. he recalled prime minister narendra modi's emphasis on india's youth as “gen z innovators” and urged students to make the most of platforms like iisf to contribute towards viksit bharat and aatmanirbhar bharat.after inaugurating the curtain raiser, dr. ilangovan delivered a lecture on science and society for viksit bharat - role of students. reflecting on his long association with cecri, he spoke about the evolution of science, its role in solving societal challenges, and the need for attentive learning, quoting verses from thirukkural. he urged students to embrace sustainable energy solutions, highlighting global challenges such as fossil fuel depletion and co₂ emissions.dr. ilangovan also outlined isro's milestones, including its growing indigenisation efforts and fully automated mission systems, citing the indigenous software sitara. calling students the “torchbearers of india's centenary year in 2047”, he encouraged them to prioritise national progress and seek knowledge without hesitation.the event concluded with an interactive q&a session and a vote of thanks by chief scientist dr. s.m. rajendran.
