Siliguri: All educational institutions in Siliguri remained closed  following a teachers' strike demanding arrest of the secretary of a Trinamool Congress-run primary teachers' association, who had spat on the face of a district school inspector.

'We will intensify our protests if the police did not arrest him immediately,' All Bengal Teachers' Association's (ABTA) spokesman Tamal Chanda said, who also has submitted a memorandum to the SDO in this regard.

On June 9, Ranjan Silsharma had spat thrice on Riazul Islam at his office, when the latter refused to sign a paper as asked by him. A complaint was, later, lodged against Silsharma, who is absconding since then.

Disapproving of Silsharma's act, Trinamool Congress however, said that they have already asked him to apologise Islam and would also take measures against Silsharma as per their party constitution.
