New Delhi: Global smartphone brand OPPO on Wednesday announced the launch of its India-exclusive imaging innovation initiative, “LUMO Lab”, alongside the forthcoming launch of the OPPO Find X9 Series on November 18. The initiative aims to co-create imaging experiences that celebrate India's cultural vibrancy and diverse visual stories through technological excellence and local collaboration.

The OPPO Find X9 Series, which debuts with the world's first 200MP Hasselblad Telephoto Camera, an industry-first True Colour Camera, and Real-Time Triple Exposure HDR technology, represents a major leap in mobile imaging. The company said the new flagship will redefine smartphone photography by combining hardware innovation, computational imaging, and human-centric design.

In alignment with this vision, the “LUMO Lab” will serve as a collaborative platform bringing together OPPO's imaging engineers and prominent Indian photographers — Joseph Radhik, Ashik Aseem, and Zaid Salman — to refine and localise the imaging capabilities of the Find X series. The project will focus on authentic skin tones, India's festive colours, and intricate textures of local craftsmanship to ensure that OPPO's imaging resonates with real Indian users.

Simon Liu, Global Imaging Director, OPPO, said, “LUMO Lab embodies OPPO's commitment to advancing human-centric imaging tailored to India's vibrant landscape. Our goal is to understand the unique challenges of the local market and create technology that acts as a creative partner, empowering photographers, creators, and everyday users to express themselves freely.”

At the core of the Find X9 Series is the 200MP Hasselblad Telephoto Camera, which offers 13.2x lossless zoom and up to 120x hybrid zoom. Built on a 1/1.56-inch sensor, the telephoto module ensures lifelike detail and clarity even at extreme distances. OPPO's proprietary Active Optical Alignment technology further enhances optical precision, improving resolution by 15 per cent.

The Find X9 Pro also features the Real-Time Triple Exposure HDR system, developed in collaboration with Sony. Using the customised LYT-828 sensor, the technology captures three exposures simultaneously to eliminate ghosting and deliver balanced highlights and shadows — ideal for dynamic scenes and low-light conditions.

Another major highlight is the industry-first True Colour Camera, which employs an 8-channel spectral sensor and 48-zone light analysis to measure colour with scientific precision. This allows the camera to reproduce authentic skin tones and consistent colour across all lenses under varying lighting conditions.

Both Find X9 models capture full 50MP resolution photos across all three rear cameras, four times the detail of standard 12MP images, providing flexibility for professional editing and large-scale printing. Complementing the hardware is the LUMO Image Engine, OPPO's new computational system that optimises clarity, tone, and dynamic range while reducing power consumption by 50 per cent.

Through the synergy of Hasselblad optics, OPPO's LUMO Engine, and insights from the newly launched LUMO Lab, the company aims to set a new benchmark for smartphone photography rooted in authenticity and emotion.

Founded in 2014, OPPO India operates one of the country's largest smartphone manufacturing facilities in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. With the launch of the Find X9 Series and the LUMO Lab, OPPO strengthens its position as a global imaging innovator committed to India's creative and technological ecosystem.
