Temple History : The Hindu Culture Maintain Centre was started on 4 September 1999 to serve the spiritual and cultural needs of the large Hindu population in Sweden. The temple was founded on 26 January 2000 with financial assistance from Denmark Mataji Upasaki and donations from many other Hindu devotees who continue to give their support for the development of the temple. Currently 120 Hindu families (500 members) contribute for the temple operations and maintenance. The deity of Lord Ganesha in the sanctum sanctorum is made of Panchaloha - a special alloy of brass, bronze, copper, gold and silver. The deity and other pooja articles were specially made in Sri Lanka and India. On all fridays and on special occasions, the pooja begins with Abhishekam which is the bathing of the idol with milk, honey, rose water, yoghurt, sandal wood paste and panchamritam (a mixture of various fruits, honey and brown sugar).
