Saturday 23rdMarch 2019, there was a Carnatic Music Chamber Concert by Vidwan K.N.Shashikiran at 5:15pm held at Chamber Room (upstairs),Mt Eden War Memorial Hall Auckland.

It was  a privilege for Mani bros.Sri Chirag Mani and Sri Pavan Mani, who joined with Sri Sashikiran on vocals. They are the son of Newzealand Carnatic Music Society Secretary Mrs.Leena Mani & Mr.Mani Narayanaswamy. Pavan Mani learns vocal from the great musician Swamimalai Prof S.R.Janakiraman and Violin from Vidwan Parur M.A.Sundareswaran. Like Pavan Mani, his brother Chirag Mani learns mridangam from Vidwan Mannargudi Easwaran and vocal from Kalaimamani K.N.Shashikiran.

Dr.Ashok Malur accompanied on Violin and Mridangam supported by  Sri. Raj Nivas

The concert commenced with a beautiful swaying kunthala varali - Sri Ranga Pura Vasa on Lord Ranganatha, Next Sri Sashikiran sang sadananda thandavam song in Bahudaari and it was rendered very nicely and it was followed by  St.Thyagaraja’s one of the pancharathnakrithis ‘Sadhinjane’ in Arabhi raagam.  He aptly chose to render kumudakriya as main raga and  did a skilful raga outline and neraval aalapanai and sang ‘Sri Arthanarreswaram’ of muthuswami dhikshithar. A big appalause was given to them by the audience. Both Chirag and Pavan joined him wheh he did swaraprasthaaram. It was followed by a purandaradasar kriti ‘Hari narayana Hari narayana’, subbaraama sastri’s ‘Janani ninnuvinaa’ in ragam reethigowla and ‘garuda kamana samayamithe’ krithi in naagaswaravali raagam.

The Next part of the concert was quite interesting. Ragam Thanam Pallavi. Sashikiran took seventy two melakartha as melathaala raagamaalika.  So, the 72nd Melam Rasikapriya  was chosen as a raga for delivering the pallavi.  Its called melakartha chakra viyugam.  Its based on 12 chakram and 6 raagams.  It was none other than the kanda Jathi Triputa Thalam. 'sruthi swara laya rasiga priye, geethapriya, sankeethapriye' was the pallavi Sahityam. Tanam was rendered in Ragamalika and Sri Pavan handled the ragas and perfectly rendered swaras which was highly appreciable.  He mesmerized and held captive the rasika's heart who had come in anticipation of a treat.

The concert was  ended with a thillana and Madurai Mani’s famous English note.  Thani Avarthanam was enjoyable and the performance of Mani bros. were really very brilliant.. The concert concluded with the mangalam and with the vote of thanks of Sri Mani narayanaswamy.

It was evident that the concert was fulfilling and satisfying from the unending claps from the audience.  It was an awesome experience to sit in that beautiful concert. Beautifully packaged concert by the Brothers with the Guru Sri Sashikiran.
