Mithun clinches Team Gold and Individual 7th place in Asian School Chess Championships

Mithun Pranav (Residing in Singapore) who qualified earlier for Asian Schools Chess Championship, clinched gold as a team and placed 7th position in Overall Under 09 Boys category. Mithun scored a whopping 6.5 points out of 9 rounds thus giving him and India Team B a massive advantage for Gold.By scoring thus, he became the second highest team contributor of his team.

Asian Schools Chess Championship Boys division was held on 29th - 31 July 2019 organised by National Chess

Federation of Philippines under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE. Asian Schools Championship is conducted for players in the entire Asian Region comprising more than 50 countries. Among that close to 900 players

from 25 countries participated in this mega championship event.

The Asian Schools Chess Championships 2021 are individual and team championships combined. Each national federation was represented by individuals or by teams.

The tournament was conducted as a Swiss System competition of 9 rounds with 15 minutes and 10 seconds increment for each player. The tournament was conducted on Tornelo Platform with a Video Conferencing system (Zoom) to monitor the entire event with front and side cameras. 

Mithun's Team including Aryaman Ganguly, Sri Akhil Prasad and Aarav Arpit Shah scored a grand 26 points overall in 9 rounds making them bag gold. Team Mongolia with 24.5 points got silver. Iran Team got bronze with 23.5 points Mithun and his parents are very grateful to his coaches, entire management, teachers and staff of Velammal Matriculation School and all his well wishers. They are also very thankful to Rayavellore District Chess Association, Tamilnadu State Chess Association and All India Chess Federation.
