Houston, TX (March29, 2022):“Excessive use of pesticides and industrial farming practices have led to severe degradation of our world’s soils, creating a situation where we could have 40% less food by 2045 unless corrective action is taken,” according toSadhguruJaggi Vasudev who shared this stark warning as well as a clear plan to prevent this looming catastrophe with Sewa International volunteers recently.

Discussing the Save Soil Movement with visiting Sewa International volunteers at the Isha Institute of Inner-sciences in McMinnville, Tennessee, Sadhguru expressed the concern that a large area of farmable land is being used only for rearing animals for humanconsumption.

Sridhar Talanki, member of Sewa’s Board of Directors, Srikanth Gundavarupu, Sewa’s Atlanta Chapter president and Vikas Arora Sewa’s Regional Director of Services met Sadhguru and Isha volunteers to discuss how Sewa and Isha Foundation could collaborate to combat soil degradation, climate change, and looming food shortages.

The Sewa team toured Isha’s 1500acre campus on arrival and later discussed various service-oriented programs that Sewa and Isha Foundation are conducting to address human wellbeing. Sadhguru and Sridhar Talanki also discussed the possibility of Sewa volunteers joining handswith Isha in its Cauvery river revitalization project in India. Sadhguru applauded Sewa's helpin augmenting Isha’s provision of groceries, medical care, and ambulance services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sewa International provided a grant to Isha Foundation, India in 2021 to help people perform the last rites of their loved ones in a graceful and dignified way. The grant intended to assist people who lost their relatives to the COVID-19 pandemic. Isha utilized this grant to deploy two Mortuary Vans to transport bodies to the crematorium when the COVID-19 second wave hit India hard. As the 18 crematoriums run by Isha Foundations were overwhelmed during the crisis, Isha also utilized the grant amount to install a temporary furnace to ease the situation.

Sadhguru informed Sewa volunteers that he plans to undertake a 30,000 kilometer journey across 27 countries from London to the Cauvery river in Southern India as part of the Save Soil global ecological movement. Isha is planning a 100-day movement as part of these efforts and SridarTalanki emphasized that Sewa volunteers would be able to work with Isha under Sewa’s Project Vasundhara (“Earth in Sanskrit) which has similar goals.
