The World Health Organization states that the definition of health is not only the absence of disease but a state of complete physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being. Understanding that, respecting the religious belief and spiritual values being part of the health of humans, the staff and well-wishers committee of the Primary Medical Care Unit Morawewa together with the local community installed the multi-religious shrines for all four religions within the hospital premises on Saturday, 23rd of April 2022. This event was chaired by the Medical Officer in charge Dr. (Mrs.) Lakmali Ananda. PMCU Morawewa is a primary care level hospital under the administrative purview of Trincomalee Regional Director of Health Services.
Religious leaders of all four religions, members of the hospital well-wishers committee, chairman of the Morawewa pradeshiya sabha – Mr. Jagath Weeragoda, representatives of other government institutions of Morawewa, staff from neighbouring hospitals, representatives of local societies and the locals participated in this event. Initiatives for these religious shrines were taken about 3 years ago by the past Medical Officer in charge Dr. Gnanakunalan Paul Roshan through the establishment of the hospital well-wishers committees. The contributions for this endeavour were exclusively bared by the local community, well-wishers and the staff. It's historically very rare to see such multi-religious shrines erected in a small village-level hospital such as PMCU Morawewa. The establishment of these multi-religious shrines is also an effort to strengthen the religious harmony among the local community.
