Rob Cain , CONTRIBUTOR I write about the Chinese, Indian and American movie industries. Opinions expressed by Forbes Contributors are their own. Pause Mute Current Time 1:02 / Duration Time 1:14 Loaded: 0%Progress: 0% Share Fullscreen At midnight Indian time on Thursday, May 11th, the official teaser trailer for South Indian superstar Ajith Kumar's film Vivevgam hit the internet and promptly exploded. By 12 noon on Thursday, 12 hours after its release, the 57-second trailer had amassed a staggering total of 5 million views, more than its fellow Tamil language rival film Kabali garnered in its first 24 hours when its teaser debuted in 2016. Ajith's 'Vivegam' is scheduled to release worldwide on August 10th Sathya Jyothi Films Ajith's 'Vivegam' is scheduled to release worldwide on August 10th Kabali, which starred blockbuster hero Rajinikanth, went on to gross nearly 5 billion rupees ($77 million) worldwide, making it the 6th highest grossing Indian film in history at the time. Vivegam, described by its producer T.G.Thyagarajan of Sathya Jyothi Films as a “spy-thriller” in the vein of James Bond, has the Indian film industry abuzz with expectations that it will surpass Kabali's gross and secure a place among the top-grossing movies in Indian history. Loyal followers of Ajith (Vedalam), affectionately known as Thala to his fans, were inspired to abide by a list of commandments that had been circulated in hopes of boosting online views of the trailer past the Kabali's Tamil language record. Even though the Vivegam teaser was leaked in advance and scored hundreds of thousands of views via Whatsapp, most cooled their heels to support the effort to concentrate a record number of views on Youtube and thereby promote the claim that their idol is the king of South Indian cinema.   13:14:04 IST
