Chennai: IIT Madras received a record donation of Rs. 228 crore from alumnus Dr. Krishna Chivukula, the largest single contribution in the institute's history.

This generous donation is also one of the largest ever to an Indian educational institution. In recognition, the institute named an academic block after Dr. Chivukula, a pioneer in Metal Injection Molding (MIM) technology and founder of Indo-MIM, the world leader in this field.

The donation will fund various initiatives, including scholarships for international students, research grants, undergraduate fellowships, sports scholarships, and the maintenance of the newly named Krishna Chivukula Block.

Dr. Chivukula, an IIT Madras Distinguished Alumnus Awardee, expressed his gratitude for the education he received, which enabled his significant professional achievements.

IIT Madras has seen remarkable growth in fundraising, with Rs. 513 crore raised in 2023-24, a 135% increase from the previous year. The funds, including Rs. 367 crore from alumni alone, support cutting-edge research, infrastructure, and scholarships.

The institute's Office of Institutional Advancement, led by CEO Kaviraj Nair, oversees these efforts, highlighting the strong commitment of alumni and corporate partners to advancing education and research at IIT Madras.
