Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has extended the quarterly vacation for schools till October 6, following requests from teachers for additional time off.

The ongoing quarterly examinations for students in classes 6 to 12 will conclude on September 27. Initially, the school education department declared a five-day holiday from September 28 to October 2, with specific instructions prohibiting special classes during this period.

In response to teachers' requests, the Tamil Nadu government has announced an extension of the quarterly examination holiday until October 6. Teachers had been advocating for more vacation days, citing the need for additional time to complete grading and other administrative tasks.

Teachers expressed concerns over the short vacation, emphasizing the burden of correcting answer sheets, completing evaluations, and managing office duties. Taking these concerns into account, the school education department has extended the break, with schools now set to reopen on October 7 instead of the previously scheduled October 3.
