Chennai: A group of 100 students and 14 teachers from Sri Ramana Vidyalaya, Rajapalayam, Virudhunagar district, visited the CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC) in Chennai as part of a three-day science field trip.
The visit aimed to inspire rural students to delve into science and research.
Under the guidance of Dr. N. Anandavalli, Director of CSIR-SERC, the students explored various research projects, gaining hands-on experience in structural engineering innovations. The initiative encouraged creativity, innovation, and active participation in science-related pursuits.
Dr. Parivallal, Principal Scientist and Advisor (Management), welcomed the visitors, while Dr. S. Maheswaran, Senior Principal Scientist, introduced the CSIR-Jigyasa program, designed to ignite scientific curiosity among school students. He highlighted how such programs foster research and critical thinking.
The event saw active coordination from scientists and officers including Shri R.D. Sathish Kumar, Dr. S. Sundar Kumar, Shri A.K. Farvaze Ahmed, and Shri E. Ashokkumar.
The visit was organized in collaboration with the Galileo Science Club and Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan, with State Coordinator Mr. Kannabiran playing a key role.
Students expressed gratitude for the experience, noting how it deepened their interest in science and research.
The visit reflects CSIR-SERC's commitment to promoting STEM education among young minds, especially from rural areas.
