Chennai: With the government school film competition set to commence the day after tomorrow for students from Classes 6 to 9, both students and teachers have shown little enthusiasm for the event.
Various competitions are conducted to showcase the diverse talents of government school students. Among them, children's short films on significant themes aim to raise awareness and understanding.
To encourage filmmaking skills, competitions in acting, story writing, and poster design have been organized this year.
The Director of School Education recently announced that all school students should participate in district-level competitions, with selected winners advancing to regional and state levels.
Schools were instructed to upload participant details on the EMIS website today, conduct school-level contests on the 7th, and submit winners' details by the 10th.
Regional and district-level competitions are scheduled for the 13th and 20th, respectively, with results to be recorded the following day.
However, teachers have expressed concerns over the timing of the competition.
With supplementary exams for board students and annual school functions underway, they believe such events may disrupt academic focus.
"Competitions should be introduced gradually from June to effectively identify and nurture student talents. Conducting them in February, when the financial year is closing, creates unnecessary pressure on schools and officials," teachers remarked.
