Chennai: Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi expressed deep concern over the increasing drug addiction among Tamil Nadu's youth, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive drug prevention and awareness efforts.
The Governor voiced serious concerns about the growing trend of drug addiction among the youth in Tamil Nadu, emphasizing that dangerous substances like heroin and cocaine are being sold across the state.
Speaking at a drug prevention and awareness program held at Women's Christian College in Nungambakkam, Chennai, the Governor highlighted the far-reaching impact of addiction on society.
Governor Ravi underscored the devastating consequences of drug addiction, which not only destroys individuals and families but also threatens the social fabric of a state.
Drawing parallels to the situation in North-Eastern states and Punjab, where drug problems have severely affected local economies and societies, he warned that Tamil Nadu could face similar challenges if the issue is not addressed.
Despite the ban on cannabis in Tamil Nadu, Governor Ravi noted that its sale continues unabated, along with the growing availability of hard drugs such as heroin and cocaine.
He also pointed out that drug trafficking has become a multi-billion-dollar industry, with syndicates operating in Tamil Nadu.
The Governor stressed that the issue should not be taken lightly, as it poses a grave threat to future generations calling for stronger measures to eradicate the drug trade and increased efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of addiction.
