Ahmedabad: Over 56 per cent students passed the SSC (Class X) examinations of the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB), results of which were announced today.
    
The pass percentage for this year is 56.43, which is 7.15 per cent less than the previous year when 63.58 students had cleared the examination, government officials said.
    
Out of the 7.68 lakh students who appeared for the exam, 4.33 lakh passed, they said.
    
Sagar Dhamecha of Amreli district topped with 96.92 per cent marks while Jay Chavda (96.31) of Rajkot and Utkarsh Patel (96.15) of Anand district were second and third respectively.
    
Girls have outperformed boys in terms of passing percentage in the examinations, the officials said.
    
A total of 61.53 per cent girls passed the exams, while only 53.39 per cent boys cleared it. The passing percentage for boys and girls last year was 60.82 and 52.82 respectively.
    
Of the 32 students in the merit list 20 are boys and 12 girls, they said.
    
The number of schools that registered 100 per cent result decreased from 408 last year to 359 this year. At the same time, schools with 30 per cent success rate increased considerably from 968 to 1236, the officials said.
