New Delhi: Delhi University Teachers' Association on Friday staged a protest at the Delhi Vidhan Sabha, demanding regularisation of teaching and non-teaching posts in 12 Delhi government-funded colleges affiliated to the University of Delhi.

According to a DUTA statement, hundreds of teachers participated in the protest and raised concerns over the delay in filling sanctioned vacancies in colleges fully funded by the Delhi government.

Addressing the gathering, DUTA president V S Negi said the delay in regular appointments had resulted in excessive dependence on ad hoc and temporary teachers, adversely affecting academic functioning and the teaching-learning environment in these colleges.

Negi said the posts had already been created and appointments were being made in accordance with University and UGC norms, but the regularisation process had not yet begun.

The teachers' body demanded immediate approval of all existing teaching and non-teaching posts and regularisation of ad hoc teachers currently working in the institutions.

DUTA secretary Bimlendu Tirthunker said the required documents related to these posts had already been submitted to the Directorate of Higher Education by the respective college authorities.

The association said any further delay would deepen the academic and administrative crisis in these colleges and urged the Delhi government to take immediate steps in the interest of teachers, students and higher education in the national capital.
