Chennai: IIT Madras has announced a five-day online certificate course in maritime law, to be conducted from February 9 to 13, 2026, aimed at strengthening legal and operational expertise in the port, shipping and marine sectors.

The institute said the specialised programme is designed for working professionals and newcomers seeking career advancement without disrupting their schedules. No prior knowledge of law or policy is required, making the course accessible to a wider pool of learners.

The curriculum will cover key areas of commercial and operational relevance, including shipping contracts, marine insurance, the decarbonisation of shipping, green ports under the blue economy, and an overview of global maritime governance frameworks such as UNCLOS. It will also address enforcement mechanisms such as admiralty law and international arbitration.

According to IIT Madras, the blend of legal fundamentals and practical applications is intended to enhance capabilities across the global supply chain and maritime ecosystem.

Registrations are open until January 30, 2026, through the institute's online portal.
