Puducherry: Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) on Friday observed Mahaparinirvan Diwas to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr B R Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution.

A programme was held at the Administrative Block foyer, where JIPMER Director Dr Vir Singh Negi, along with faculty members, staff and students, paid floral tributes to the portrait of Dr Ambedkar.

Speakers recalled his invaluable contributions to the nation, particularly his role in shaping India's constitutional framework and championing social justice, equality and the rights of the marginalised.

Mahaparinirvan Diwas is observed every year on December 6 to mark the death anniversary of Dr Ambedkar.
