Latur: More than 2,000 teachers from government-aided private schools and Zilla Parishad-run institutions took out a massive protest march in Maharashtra's Latur district on Friday, pressing for the fulfilment of their long-pending demands.
The protest saw participation from at least 29 teachers' unions from across the district, reflecting widespread discontent within the teaching community. The teachers assembled at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Park and marched to the Zilla Parishad office, where they submitted a detailed memorandum to the Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer, the education officer and the district collector.
Among their key demands, the teachers sought the state government's immediate intervention by filing a review petition against the recent Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) decision. They also demanded the reinstatement of the old pension scheme under the Maharashtra Secondary Education Rules of 1982 and 1984.
In addition, the protesting teachers called for the implementation of a regular pay scale and the extension of medical and cashless health insurance facilities to all teachers.
The teachers warned that if their demands are not addressed at the earliest, they would intensify their agitation in the coming days. The protest remained peaceful under heavy police deployment.
