The International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-Bangalore) has invited applications for admission to its research degree programmes for Term 2 of the 2026-27 academic year.
Programmes:Admissions are offered to Integrated PhD and PhD programmes in all research domains and MS by Research in all domains except Mathematics and Physics.
The seven research domains are: Computer Science and Software Engineering; Data Science and Artificial Intelligence; Digital Humanities and Societal Systems; Networking, Communications and Signal Processing; VLSI and Embedded Systems; Mathematics; Physics.
The Integrated PhD programme has a minimum duration of four years, the PhD programme three years and the MS by Research programme two years. PhD and Integrated PhD candidates can register either full-time or part-time, while MS by Research is available only for full-time candidates.
Eligibility:

MS by Research:
Candidates should have a four-year Bachelor's degree in Engineering (B.E., B.Tech. or equivalent) with a good academic record. Depending on the research domain, candidates may need a national-level entrance examination score or may have to appear for a domain-specific entrance test conducted by IIIT-Bangalore.
Integrated PhD:
Candidates should have a four-year/eight-semester undergraduate degree in a relevant branch of Engineering or Science with at least 75% marks. A valid GATE score in a relevant subject is required. The institute will shortlist candidates based on undergraduate marks and GATE scores.
PhD:
Candidates should possess a Master's degree or equivalent with a good academic and, where applicable, technical record. Candidates are required to have a relevant national-level entrance examination qualification or take a domain-specific entrance examination conducted by IIIT-Bangalore. Candidates with UGC-NET or similar research fellowships may avail of these fellowships subject to the institute's selection process.
The eligibility requirements vary by research domain. For example, Computer Science and Software Engineering applicants generally require GATE/GRE scores, while Data Science applicants are expected to have a relevant GATE qualification. GATE is desirable but not mandatory for VLSI and Embedded Systems.
