New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India on Monday granted a week to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to file a compliance affidavit detailing its plan for deployment of screen-reader software for visually-impaired candidates in examinations.
A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta posted the matter for hearing on February 23 after UPSC sought additional time to place its affidavit on record.
In its December 3, 2025 order, the apex court had directed the commission to incorporate provisions in exam notifications allowing eligible candidates to change their scribe up to seven days before the test. It had also asked UPSC to outline timelines, modalities and infrastructure plans for screen-reader software, including testing and standardisation across centres.
The directions came on a plea by Mission Accessibility seeking greater accessibility in Civil Services Examinations.
