Chennai: With monsoon rains filling up ponds, quarries, and other water bodies across Tamil Nadu, authorities and educators have urged parents and students to exercise caution and avoid bathing or fishing in such areas.

During school holidays, many students are drawn to flooded quarries and ponds to bathe or fish for recreation. However, officials have warned that most of these water bodies are deep and unpredictable, and many youngsters lack swimming skills, making them vulnerable to drowning.

In past years, several tragic incidents have been reported from different districts during the rainy season when children accidentally slipped or misjudged the depth of quarries and reservoirs.

Education officials have advised schools to conduct awareness sessions on monsoon safety and the dangers of entering unfamiliar water bodies. Parents have also been requested to monitor their children's outdoor activities closely during holidays.

Residents and safety experts have called for joint efforts by district administrations, schools, and parents to spread awareness and prevent such avoidable accidents.
