A traditional giant omelet made with 10,000 eggs in Belgium on 15th August amidst an egg contamination scare.
In Europe, eggs have been found to contain fipronil, a substance used to kill lice on animals that is banned for use in the food industry. So the organizers are nervous, fearing that many citizens might spurn the egg, bacon and herb omelet, cooked in a 4m- wide (13ft) frying pan.
But hundreds of people gathered in the eastern Belgian city of Malmedy undeterred by the scare. The giant omelet cooked successfully over an open fire by 'The World Fraternity of Knights of the Giant Omelet', which was created in 1973.
