1. 76 Justices of the Peace (JPs) were appointed by President
Tharman Shanmugaratnam on 18 September 2025. This year's ceremony was
held at the National Gallery Singapore and the Oath-Taking and
Affirmation Ceremony was presided by Judge of the High Court, Justice
Christopher Tan.
2. JPs are outstanding
Singaporeans who have made significant contributions in their
profession, the public service, social services and to the community.
They are appointed by the President under section 11(1) of the State
Courts Act. JPs may exercise powers and perform duties conferred under
written law, most commonly as Visiting Justices to our prisons, Court
volunteer mediators in the State Courts and marriage solemnisers
appointed through the Registry of Marriages.

“With humility and deep gratitude, I am honoured to be appointed as a
Justice of the Peace. This appointment affirms my commitment to serve
with integrity, respect and compassion - values that have guided my
journey in social work and community engagement. I look forward to
strengthening our social fabric, and uplifting lives across our society
through my service as a JP. It is a privilege to stand alongside others
in service, and I embrace this responsibility with purpose and hope,'
said Ms Theresa Sim May Ling, Assurance Partner at PwC Singapore and a
newly appointed JP.
4. Sharing how being a
JP has made an impact on his life, Mr Edwin Ignatious M, Deputy Director
at the Singapore Food Agency and a re-appointed JP, said, “It has been
deeply meaningful and a humbling privilege to serve the community in
solemnising marriages and witnessing the joy of couples beginning a new
chapter of their lives together. Beyond these personal moments, I see
the JP's role in carrying out other duties entrusted to JPs as one that
strengthens trust in our community by being accessible, impartial, and
committed to upholding fairness. It is truly an honour to contribute to
the lives of those we serve through this public service.”
5.
The 76 JPs are appointed for a term of five years from 1 September
