Archaeological Education that Inspires Excellence

More than 30 universities and more than 40 colleges in India offer archaeological education. They offer courses in ancient history, archaeology, culture, archaeology, museology, and conservation technology at postgraduate, undergraduate, and diploma levels.
One of the oldest universities, the University of Madras, has been offering ancient history and archaeology at the Master of Science and Doctoral levels since 1961. Courses related to Neolithic history, archaeological excavation methods, architecture, sculpture, and inscriptions, numismatics, museology, and deep-sea studies are also taught. Students are also provided with formal excavation training every year.
Thanjavur Tamil University also offers Masters, PhD and Doctoral degrees in all disciplines related to archaeology, epigraphy, numismatics, deep-sea exploration and architecture. Tamil Nadu Open University offers a one-year diploma course in archaeology and epigraphy, a doctorate in ancient history and archaeology, and a six-month certificate course in archaeological preservation technology.
The World Institute of Tamil Studies in Chennai offers a one-year course in archaeology. The Department of Archaeology, Government of Tamil Nadu offers a two-year course in archaeology with a scholarship. This scholarship provided to students will be a great opportunity for them to undertake further research.
The Deccan State University has been offering courses ranging from Masters to Doctoral degrees in ancient Indian history and archaeology since 1939. The university has produced renowned archaeologists like Sangalia, Vasant Shinde, and Shanti Pappu.
Ashutosh Mukherjee, who was the Vice-Chancellor in 1911, laid the foundation for the Department of Archaeology, which was started in 1960 at the University of Calcutta. Here, subjects related to archaeology such as Neolithic history, epigraphy, numismatics, architecture, and sculpture are taught.
Apart from universities, many colleges also offer archaeology courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These educational institutions scientifically excavate the other side of history through archaeological education and announce it to the world.
