The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is the national education board of India, responsible for framing academic guidelines and standards for its affiliated schools. Its primary goal is to provide a uniform education system that ensures consistency and quality in teaching and learning across the country.

As of last year, CBSE oversees a network of 29,768 affiliated schools in India and abroad.

At the primary stage (Classes 1-5), students focus on core subjects such as English, Hindi, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies. As they move to the middle and secondary stages (Classes 6-10), they are introduced to additional subjects like Computer Science, Arts, and Physical Education. At the higher secondary level, students can choose from streams such as Science, Commerce, or Humanities along with electives based on their interests and career aspirations.

CBSE emphasizes a student-centred learning approach that promotes understanding, creativity, and application rather than rote learning.

Basic features of the CBSE curriculum:

CBSE follows textbooks developed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), ensuring consistency in content across all schools. These textbooks are regularly updated to reflect current affairs and contemporary developments.

The curriculum framework clearly defines learning objectives, teaching methods, and assessment criteria. Rather than focusing solely on final exams, it promotes continuous evaluation through regular tests, assignments, and projects.

The focus on core subjects such as Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and Languages builds a strong academic foundation, while the inclusion of electives allows students to explore their interests and prepare for higher studies and future careers.
