At first glance, many travellers passing along the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway mistake the sprawling campus of Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences for a traditional South Indian temple complex. Only on closer observation does its identity as a modern multidisciplinary university become apparent.

The campus architecture draws heavily from classical temple aesthetics. A towering 40-foot monolithic statue of Lord Murugan and a university structure inspired by the iconic Tirupati temple gopuram lend the institution a distinctive visual identity. Beyond its traditional exterior, however, the university houses advanced infrastructure across disciplines including medicine, dentistry, engineering, and law.

Flexible and Student-Centric Learning
The university has adopted the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), allowing students to choose subjects and faculty members according to their interests. Since classes are organised around subjects rather than fixed batches, students from different academic years often learn together in the same classroom environment.

The institution also offers accelerated academic pathways. Engineering students, for instance, can complete a four-year programme in three or three-and-a-half years. Similar flexibility is being introduced in legal education, enabling students to dedicate the remaining period to internships, skill development, and industry exposure.

Strong Focus on Research
Research and innovation form a major pillar of the university's academic ecosystem. A dedicated 10-storey research and development block supports collaborations with the Indian Council of Medical Research and several international research institutions.

Students are also offered dual-degree opportunities that allow them to study for two years in India and two years abroad. The university has additionally emerged as a training destination for international medical professionals, with more than 250 doctors from Australia reportedly visiting the institution for specialised training programmes.

Healthcare and Social Responsibility
The university's teaching hospital integrates digital healthcare systems to provide streamlined treatment services for patients. According to the institution, integrated medical care worth up to Rs 5,000 is offered through a fully digitised treatment process.

Apart from academics and healthcare, the university has also introduced several social and entrepreneurial initiatives. Every year, 50 students receive full scholarships, while aspiring entrepreneurs are supported through incubation space, mentorship, and funding assistance for startups.

Adding a symbolic cultural layer to the campus, several Vinayagar sculptures across the dental blocks are designed to represent different branches of dental treatment. Temple-style kalasams representing nine academic disciplines have also been incorporated into the architecture, intended to stand as markers of contemporary dental science for future generations.

The university's blend of heritage-inspired architecture, modern infrastructure, flexible learning, and research-driven education reflects an attempt to create a campus that merges Indian cultural identity with global academic aspirations.
