Those wishing to serve in the Indian Defence Forces as an officer can get the opportunity of working with proper training by writing the 'Combined Defence Services Examination'.
This exam is conducted by the Central Government’s Union Public Service Commission ( UPSC).
Places of admission
• Indian Military Academy, Dehradun -– 100
• Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala -– 22
• Air Force Academy, Hyderabad –- 32
• Officers Training Academy, Chennai -– 187,
Totally 341 seats are filled through this examination.
Eligibility: Should be a citizen of India. May also be a citizen of Nepal and are eligible based on specific governing rules. Though being a native of India, having migrated to Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, East Africa, and Vietnam are also eligible.
Educational Qualification:
Indian Military Academy and Officers Training Academy requires an undergraduate degree or equivalent from any recognized university. Bachelor of Engineering degree from any recognized institute is required to join Indian Naval Academy!
Undergraduate Engineering Degree from any recognized University OR Undergraduate with Physics and Maths subjects in plus 2 for Indian Air Force Academy is a must.
Age Limit: To join Indian Military Academy and Indian Naval Academies must born between January 2, 2000 – January 1, 2005; Air Force Academy January 2, 2000 – January 1, 2004; Officers Training Academy should be born between January 2, 1999 – January 1, 2005.
Examination Centres: Examination centres function in various cities of the country including Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, Vellore, Puducherry, Tirupati, Thiruvananthapuram, Vijayawada, Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad.
Exam Pattern: In all the academies English Language Knowledge for 100 Marks, General Knowledge for 100 Marks will be tested. Additional of basic math knowledge will be tested for 100 marks for admission to Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy.
