Chennai: In a significant milestone for India's electronics manufacturing sector, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Railways, and Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnav, today inaugurated the state-of-the-art laptop manufacturing plant of Sirma SGS in Chennai.
Located in the Chennai Export Zone (MEPZ), this facility is poised to reshape India's IT hardware manufacturing landscape.
The plant is part of the government's PLI 2.0 initiative aimed at boosting IT hardware production. It marks a key partnership between Sirma SGS and Taiwan's Micro-Star International (MSI), a global leader in mobile phone and laptop manufacturing. This collaboration signals a major step towards enhancing India's self-reliance in producing high-end IT hardware.
Starting with an annual production capacity of 100,000 laptops, the facility plans to ramp up production to one million units annually within the next two years, driven by rising demand.
The expansion is expected to generate 150 to 200 new jobs by fiscal year 2026, bolstering local employment and further strengthening the regional economy.
The inauguration highlights India's growing capabilities in manufacturing world-class laptops, positioning the country as a competitive player in the global IT hardware industry.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Vaishnav emphasized that the initiative aligns with the objectives of the 'Make in India' program, focusing on manufacturing in India for global markets. He also noted that such ventures will create substantial employment opportunities and foster economic growth through locally produced products.
This version sharpens the focus on key developments and highlights the broader implications for India's IT manufacturing sector.
