Chennai: The draw for the admission of students who have applied for free education under the Right to Education (RTE) scheme in private schools will be conducted on the 28th of May.
Applications for the 25 percent reservation of seats for weaker sections in private self-financed schools under the RTE program were accepted from April 24 to April 20.
This is in accordance with the Free and Compulsory Education Act.
In Chennai district, a total of 10,342 applications were received from 636 schools, out of which 9,051 applications have been selected for the draw.
For schools where the number of applications exceeds the available seats, admissions will be decided by drawing lots in the presence of the parents.
Rashmi Siddharth Jagade, Collector, Chennai announced that the draw will be held on the 28th in these schools with excess applications.
Parents who have submitted their applications online can participate in the lottery at the respective schools on the designated day.
