Chennai: The Federation of Government Doctors Associations has declared that its members will boycott inspection meetings conducted by district collectors.
The decision follows allegations that an IAS officer had threatened senior officials and doctors during a joint meeting of the People's Welfare Department at the National Welfare Office in Chennai. Similar complaints have emerged from district collectors in Trichy, Virudhunagar, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Dharmapuri, and Tirupattur, where government doctors reported instances of being insulted.
Condemning these incidents, associations including the Tamil Nadu Government Doctors Association and the All Government Doctors Association Federation have opted for a non-cooperation protest. They announced that doctors would refrain from attending inspection meetings.
In response, Supriya Sahu, Secretary of the People's Welfare Department, held discussions with the association representatives. She requested time until January to address their demands and urged them to suspend protests temporarily.
However, federation coordinator Balakrishnan stated that the non-cooperation movement would continue to ensure their demands are met without disrupting public services. “We will not participate in meetings related to the Chief Minister's insurance scheme or other sessions chaired by high-ranking officials, including collectors. Additionally, we plan to leave official WhatsApp groups,” he said.
The association emphasized that the agitation aims to pressurize the government to meet their demands without causing inconvenience to the public.
