Chennai: Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad (IIT Palakkad) have entered into a strategic partnership to enhance educational and research opportunities.

The initiative focuses on resource sharing, research internships, and summer programs aimed at enriching student experiences.

The collaboration, formalized through an MoU on November 14, 2024, will primarily benefit students of IIT Madras' Bachelor of Science (BS) in Data Science and Applications program and IIT Palakkad's undergraduate programs. Directors of both institutes, Prof. V. Kamakoti (IIT Madras) and Prof. A. Seshadri Sekhar (IIT Palakkad), hailed the initiative as a milestone in expanding quality education and fostering hands-on learning.

Key features include credit transfers for IIT Madras BS students taking courses at IIT Palakkad, access to IIT Madras' Data Science and Programming courses for IIT Palakkad students, and joint initiatives like internships and student exchanges.

Prof. Kamakoti emphasized IIT Madras' commitment to delivering quality education nationwide, while Prof. Sekhar highlighted the practical focus of IIT Palakkad's programs in nurturing innovation and skill-building.

This collaboration joins similar partnerships IIT Madras has established with institutions like IIT Gandhinagar, IIIT Hyderabad, and CMI, strengthening the academic ecosystem through interdisciplinary and practical learning.
