Chennai: IIT Madras has launched key initiatives to achieve India's goal of 100% Zero Emission Truck (ZET) penetration by 2050.

Trucks, though only 5% of the vehicle fleet, consume 65% of diesel, making their electrification critical for reducing emissions and fuel costs.

The Centre of Excellence for Zero Emission Trucking (CoEZET) introduced two projects during the 'Get ZET' event:

Driver Rating App: This AI-driven app assesses truckers' driving behaviors for safety and energy efficiency while promoting eco-friendly driving habits.
Project Outreach: A hyper-local campaign aims to educate truckers, mechanics, and fleet operators on ZET benefits, covering 200 locations across major states.

Director Prof. V. Kamakoti emphasized awareness, acceptance, and adoption as key to this transformation. By addressing the "User Layer," including drivers and helpers, the initiative seeks to boost comfort, efficiency, and industry competitiveness.

The project spans 16-18 months, leveraging both digital and physical outreach.
