New Delhi: India's space technology is no longer confined to rocket launches but is transforming governance by enhancing transparency, grievance redressal, and citizen participation, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on Friday.

Speaking at the 'Space-Tech for Good Governance' conclave, Singh highlighted the role of space technology in reducing corruption, streamlining timelines, and curbing bureaucratic delays. He termed space tech a key driver of economic growth, benefiting startups, agriculture, defence, and disaster management.

Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, Singh said India's space sector has expanded significantly, with the budget rising from ₹5,615 crore in 2013-14 to ₹13,416 crore in 2025-26. India has launched 433 foreign satellites, generating over $192 million and 272 million euros in revenue.

He noted that initiatives like 'Swamitva Yojana' leverage satellite mapping for land record management, reducing dependency on revenue officials. Singh also announced that trials for the Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission would begin by late 2025, with India targeting a Moon mission by 2040 and the establishment of a space station by 2035.

With growing private sector participation, Singh projected India's space economy to surge to $44 billion, cementing the country's position as a global space leader.
