Chennai: The much awaited general category counseling for MBBS and BDS admissions is set to begin online tomorrow at 10:00 AM.
This follows the release of the rank list yesterday, where Rajneesh, a standout from Namakkal School in Villupuram, claimed the top spot with a perfect NEET score of 720.
Tamil Nadu, offering a total of 9,200 MBBS seats across 36 government medical colleges and 22 self-financed institutions, also provides 2,150 BDS seats spread across three government dental colleges and 20 self-financed ones.
This year, a total of 43,063 students have applied for these coveted seats.
Family Welfare Minister Subramanian unveiled the rank list at the Chennai Government Multispecialty Hospital.
According to the list, 28,819 students qualified under the government quota, 3,683 under the 7.5 percent quota, and 13,417 under the management quota. Rajneesh, with his all-India top score, secured the first position in the government quota, followed by Syed Aribin Yusuf and Sailaja from Chennai, both scoring 715 marks.
The 7.5 percent quota for government school students saw Krishnagiri's Rubika emerge as the topper with 669 marks. The remaining top positions were closely contested by students like Gayathridevi from Salem and Anusuya from Thiruvannamalai, who scored 668 and 665 marks, respectively.
Admissions for differently-abled candidates, wards of ex-servicemen, special category sportspersons, and those under the 7.5 percent quota will take place in person the day after tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the addition of 300 new MBBS seats across various institutions this year highlights the growing demand for medical education in Tamil Nadu, even as debates over NEET exam exemptions continue in several states, including Tamil Nadu.
