Chennai: Perplexity AI, a leading conversational search engine, has provided complimentary access to its Pro version for all students, faculty, and staff of IIT Madras.

Founded by IIT Madras alumnus Dr. Aravind Srinivas, the startup is currently valued at US$ 9 Billion.

The company's innovative AI-powered search engine combines traditional search functionality with advanced conversational AI, enabling users to receive precise answers with credible source citations.

Prof. V. Kamakoti, IIT Madras Director, highlighted the platform's research benefits, noting that Perplexity combines real-time internet search with large language models to deliver detailed, source-backed answers.

Perplexity Pro offers enhanced features including access to powerful AI models and deeper search capabilities. Key features include real-time information retrieval, a conversational interface, source transparency, and advanced AI technology utilizing models like GPT-4 and Claude 3.

Dr. Aravind Srinivas emphasized the collaboration's significance, stating, "Knowledge is power, and AI native search is changing how future generations learn and consume information online."

The initiative reflects Perplexity's commitment to supporting academic research and innovation, particularly at Dr. Srinivas's alma mater.
