Chennai: IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation and Asha for Education, Chennai, have provided a platform for rural government school students to demonstrate their talents through the 'RTC Impressions' event.
This initiative highlights students' creativity, problem-solving abilities, and confidence, with projects ranging from digital literacy to animation.
The students, beneficiaries of the Rural Technology Centres (RTCs), are taught tech skills in remote areas by IITM and Asha Foundation.
The organizations also plan to inaugurate three new RTCs in Uthukottai, Thirupatchur, and Thirutani, Thiruvallur district, in February 2025, expanding on their existing nine RTCs.
The event, held on 13th February at the IIT Madras Research Park, was graced by Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, and Ms. Doyeon Kim, Head of International Partnerships at Code.org.
Competitions in basic digital literacy, programming, web development, animation, and more were judged by industry experts.
Prof. Kamakoti emphasized the RTCs' goal of fostering innovation, while Ms. Kim praised the students for their remarkable creativity and problem-solving skills.
RTCs, which provide free advanced courses to local students, empower the next generation with crucial life skills alongside technical education.
The project-based learning approach nurtures confidence, communication, and a passion for innovation.
