Chennai: School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi has conducted an extensive assessment of government schools across Tamil Nadu's 234 assembly constituencies.

Yesterday, he submitted a detailed report to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, outlining critical gaps and recommendations for improvement.

The report highlights a significant shortage of foreign language teachers, especially in border districts. Schools in Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, and Erode face a dearth of Telugu, Kannada, and Urdu teachers, while Coimbatore, Theni, and Tenkasi districts lack sufficient Malayalam language educators.

Minister Mahesh also stressed the need for improved security infrastructure, such as fencing walls, particularly for schools situated near major roads and dense forests. He pointed out that teacher shortages in several institutions are negatively impacting the quality of education.

The absence of basic amenities like toilets in many schools has been identified as a pressing issue, contributing to increased dropout rates in several districts.

The report enumerates 70 critical requirements, covering infrastructure, teaching staff, and student welfare.

The minister has proposed actionable solutions to address these challenges and ensure holistic development of the state's government schools.
