Chennai: SK Prabhakar, IAS has been named the new Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).

The position became vacant in June 2022 when Balachandran retired. Muniyanathan, a TNPSC member, served as the acting chairman in the interim.

Although the Tamil Nadu government proposed DGP Sylendra Babu, who retired last year, as the new chairman, the governor did not approve the recommendation.

After a two-year vacancy, SK Prabhakar, the current Commissioner of Revenue Administration, has been appointed to the role.

Governor Ravi has endorsed the appointment, and an ordinance has been issued confirming Prabhakar's new position.

SK Prabhakar will serve as TNPSC Chairman for a term of six years or until he turns 62, whichever comes first.
