Coimbatore: Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for India to achieve developed nation status by 2045, former Anna University Vice-Chancellor Balagurusamy emphasized the role of education in fostering self-sufficiency—social, individual, and economic.
Addressing the Dinamalar Lakshya Teacher Award Ceremony 2024 in Coimbatore, he called upon teachers to instill the "10 'C' Commandments" in students, shaping a dynamic and capable youth society.
The ceremony, held at Dinamalar's Lotus Hall, honored 10 exceptional teachers from Coimbatore, Tirupur, and Nilgiris districts. Presided over by Dinamalar Senior Assistant Editor Vijil Kumar, the event commenced with a welcome address by Coimbatore Edition News Editor Vijayakumar.
Presenting the awards, Balagurusamy underlined education as the cornerstone of societal and economic progress. He lauded Dinamalar's efforts in recognizing outstanding educators and reiterated the need to nurture youth for India's growth.
While India ranks fifth globally in GDP, per capita income remains a concern, he noted. Stressing the importance of increasing schooling and higher education rates, Balagurusamy outlined the transformative potential of the "10 'C' Commandments," inspired by the vision of leaders like Abdul Kalam and Modi:
Curiosity to Question: Encourage fearless inquiry to drive scientific and mathematical thinking.
Creativity to Innovate: Foster problem-solving skills to address societal challenges.
Critical Thinking for Problem Solving: Cultivate deep thinking to discover diverse solutions.
Competence to Earn a Living: Help students identify their unique talents and career paths.
Communication for Presenting Ideas: Build confidence in sharing and discussing opinions.
Collaboration for Teamwork: Develop teamwork through group activities.
Good Character: Instill discipline, punctuality, and respect.
Courage to Face Challenges: Encourage resilience in adversity.
Compassion for Helping Others: Promote concern for social welfare alongside personal goals.
Commitment to Nation Building: Instill a selfless dedication to the country's development.
Balagurusamy concluded by stressing that classrooms are the cradle for building a strong, forward-thinking nation.
