Chennai: The Technical Education Commissioner, Abraham, has announced that a complaint will be lodged with the Cybercrime police regarding individuals who have altered and published the rank order information of engineering college students.
The manipulated data includes incorrect phone numbers and district details.
In a disturbing development, the rank order list of engineering college applicants, originally released on July 10th, has been tampered with and republished by unknown miscreants, leading to widespread misinformation.
The altered list affected 88.34% of the entries, with phone numbers and district details not matching the official database, according to Technical Education Commissioner Abraham.
The original rank list, which includes details like grade serial numbers, application numbers, names, dates of birth, marks, and caste information, was intended to aid the 197,601 students who had applied for engineering admissions.
However, it has now come to light that the list was exploited by some individuals for personal gain, causing significant confusion among students.
In response, Commissioner Abraham assured that a formal complaint will be filed with the Cybercrime Police to identify and take action against those responsible for this data mishandling.
He also cautioned students against trusting unauthorized phone calls related to admissions and advised them not to share their usernames and passwords with anyone.
For any doubts, students can contact the official helpline at 1800 425 0110.
The ongoing consultation process, which began on July 22nd, has already allocated seats to 24,177 students in the first round, including 836 under special reservations.
Students are encouraged to choose their preferred colleges and courses without fear, relying only on official sources for accurate information.
