Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed a 'Gold Card' system allowing American companies to hire talented foreign students, including Indians, without citizenship-related hurdles.
Currently, foreign students must wait for a Green Card to secure long-term work and residency rights in the U.S. The proposed Gold Card, available for a one-time payment of ₹41.5 crore, would grant the same privileges instantly. However, concerns persist that only the wealthy can afford it.
American companies have expressed difficulties in hiring top graduates from U.S. universities due to visa constraints. Many talented students from India, Japan, and China are forced to return home, contributing to innovation abroad instead of in the U.S.
Trump said the Gold Card system would help retain skilled professionals while also generating revenue to reduce national debt. He urged U.S. businesses to invest in the initiative to strengthen the country's workforce.
