Coimbatore: A road safety awareness event titled 'I am a Lifeguard' was organised at the Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Research, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore, to promote responsible road use and safety consciousness among students and faculty.
Led by Coimbatore District Collector Pawan Kumar, professors and students took the road safety pledge, committing themselves to follow traffic rules and spread awareness about safe driving practices.
Addressing the participants, the Collector said that over six lakh people have already taken the road safety pledge in the district, with the goal of reaching ten lakh participants. He emphasised that collective responsibility and adherence to traffic norms can significantly reduce road accidents.
TNAU Vice-Chancellor (in-charge) P. Tamilvendan and Dean Raviraj also participated in the event along with several faculty members and students.
The initiative is part of an ongoing district-wide campaign aimed at cultivating safer road habits and encouraging citizens to act as “lifeguards” by ensuring safety for themselves and others on the road.
