New Delhi: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced lessons on Operation Sindhoor in school textbooks from Class III to Class XII this year to foster patriotism among students.
Separate modules have been designed for primary and secondary levels, with simplified content for Classes III-VIII and advanced chapters for Classes IX-XII. The lessons highlight the Indian Army's response to a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, attributed to Pakistan-based militants.
In line with the National Education Policy, NCERT has received parliamentary approval to incorporate current affairs into the curriculum periodically. Alongside Operation Sindhu, chapters on India's first astronaut Subhanush Shukla and ISRO's Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan) have also been included.
For younger students, the new chapter is titled 'Beginning of the Heroic Journey', while higher secondary students will study 'Courage and Respect'. Spanning 8 to 10 pages, the content explains the link between the Pahalgam attack and Pakistani military leadership, Pakistan's failure to curb terrorism, and the Indian Army's decisive actions leading to a ceasefire.
The textbook also cites Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remark that “Operation Sindhu is not just a code name; it reflects the sentiments of millions who support the sacrifices of soldiers' families to uphold the nation's honor.”
