Chennai: Even after completing four rounds of medical counselling in Tamil Nadu, 48 seats in government and self-financing medical colleges remain unfilled. The state has sought additional time from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to complete the admission process.
For the 2024-25 academic year, 6,600 MBBS and 1,583 BDS seats were available under the government quota in both government and self-financed institutions. Under the management quota, 1,736 MBBS and 530 BDS seats were offered. A total of 72,194 candidates qualified for admission based on the rank list.
Direct counselling was conducted only for the 7.5% government school quota and for special category applicants. Counselling for the general category was held online through the portal tnmedicalselection.net. After the final phase concluded, 48 seats still remained vacant.
Medical Admission Committee Secretary Lokanayaki said that the vacancies include seats in Chennai and Cuddalore Government Medical and Dental Colleges, as well as in self-financing institutions under both government and management quotas. Among the vacant positions are three BDS seats, including one in the 7.5% government school quota.
She stated that a request has been sent to the NMC seeking approval to fill these remaining seats.
