Chennai: Biometric details of two crore school students have been updated through special Aadhaar camps conducted in 1.56 lakh schools across the country, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) said.

UIDAI said children's biometric details need to be updated at the ages of five and 15 as fingerprints and iris patterns develop as they grow.

The updates are required for several purposes, including applications for higher education entrance examinations such as NEET, JEE and CUET, as well as scholarships and other government scheme benefits.

To spare students the inconvenience of visiting Aadhaar centres during school hours, UIDAI has been conducting Mandatory Biometric Update camps in schools.

So far, camps have been conducted in 1.56 lakh schools and biometric details of two crore students have been updated.

The information will be linked with the School Education Department's UDISE Plus portal for education-related data exchange.
