Kovai: Amrita Viswa Vidyapeetham has once again demonstrated its academic excellence by topping the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings for the fourth consecutive year as well as secured a prestigious position among the top 100 educational institutions worldwide.
The 2024 Times Higher Education Ranking saw participation from 2,152 higher education institutions across 125 countries. This ranking assessed contributions towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on their impact on research and education.
The results were unveiled during the 2024 Global Conference on Sustainable Development, held in Bangkok from June 10 to 13.
Dr Manisha V, Head, Department of Research and Innovation, Amrita Viswa Vidyapeetham, was a keynote speaker at the event.
She highlighted the university's commitment to sustainable growth and innovation, driven by the vision of its chancellor, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi. Under her guidance, the university emphasizes "education for life" and compassion-based research.
Dr. Manisha V. attributed this achievement to the dedication of the university's students and staff, expressing her gratitude to the Times Higher Education Institution for the recognition.

The university was also honored with the Times Higher Education Asia Award 2024 for outstanding contributions to environmental governance.
Additionally, it launched the Live-in-Labs initiative, which facilitates internships in rural India. This program allows students to work with local communities to find sustainable solutions to everyday challenges, enhancing the livelihoods of villagers.
Live-in-Labs, inspired by a concept shared by Amma at the 2015 United Nations Educational Conference on Technology for Sustainable Development in New York, has been a cornerstone of Amrita's outreach. Since its inception in 2013, it has engaged over one million users across 25 states in India. Students and faculty from over 30 institutions worldwide have spent more than 400,000 hours implementing sustainable development projects in rural areas.
