Chennai: Indian universities have recorded a decline in the latest QS Asia University Rankings, with Tamil Nadu's Anna University slipping from 177th to 204th position this year.
The rankings, released by the London-based higher education analytics firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), evaluate universities across Asia based on teaching, research, academic reputation, and international outlook.
According to the 2025 list, institutions from China, Singapore, and Malaysia have dominated the top 10 positions. Only seven Indian universities found a place among the top 100. IIT Delhi ranked 59th, dropping from 44th last year, while the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, moved down from 62nd to 64th. IIT Madras, which was 56th last year, slipped to 70th this year.
Other premier institutions, including IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, and Delhi University, also witnessed a fall in their rankings.
In Tamil Nadu, Anna University fell to 204th position, while Alagappa University, which ranked 280th last year, dropped to 393rd. Among private institutions, VIT was placed 156th and SRM University 226th in the Asian rankings.
