Badal asks PM to ensure safety of Indian students in Australia

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take up with higher authorities in Australia the issue regarding
safety of Indian students studying there.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Badal said that Indian students in Australia were facing 'criminal attacks apparently racial in nature'.

Despite assurances from Australian authorities, such attacks were 'continuing unabated' and the parents of all such students were 'extremely anxious' about the well being of their wards, he wrote in the letter.

Badal also pointed out that many of the students belonged to middle and lower middle classes, who had preferred to go to that country in search of greener pastures after seeking loans from banks and financial institutions.

'The continuing violence had further added to their anxiety,' he added.
